Our Pet of the Week is “Lulu,” a 7-year-old West Highlands White Terrier (Westie). She is shown at this year’s McDonough Christmas Parade with Mike and Connie Elrod. Lulu actually belongs to their youngest son, Clay, who works for Norfolk Southern and lives in Cartersville. His schedule with the railroad doesn’t allow for time to care for a pet, so Lulu lives with her “grandparents!” The little cars they were driving in the parade were built here in McDonough by the McDonough Power Equipment Company on Macon Street (later known as Snapper, now Briggs and Stratton) in the late 50’s and early 60’s. They built the 1/2 scale T-models, known as Tin Lizzys, and the wooden framed ones, called “Buckboards.” There is a small group of 10-12 people that have restored both Tin Lizzys and Buckboards, and enjoy entering them in local parades.
