Theron J. Benton
Theron J. “Bert” Benton, age 80, of McDonough, Georgia died October 26, 2013. Bert was born in Henry County Georgia and graduated from McDonough High School in 1950. Shortly afterwards he was drafted in the United States Army and served his country for two years. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Ellenwood. Bert retired from Ford Motor Company in Hapeville after 31 years of service. After his retirement from Ford Motor Company, he worked for the Dekalb County Board of Education for 15 years. Bert’s hobbies and interests included deep sea fishing and camping. He was a member of the Lucky 13 Camping Club for many years. Bert loved to travel with his wife, Delores, and his family. He also, was a true sports fan and enjoyed watching the games with Delores. Bert was a trusted friend to all that knew him and maintained many lifelong friendships. He loved his family, church, and community. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Bert was a loving husband to his wife of 60 years, Delores Benton. He was a wonderful father to his three children and their spouses; Kathy Laggis (Jim), Ricky Benton (Ellen), and Greg Benton (Cheryl). His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren and their spouses; Brian Laggis (Jess), Bo Benton (Ashley), David Laggis, Ben Benton, Abbey Benton, Allie Benton, and Scott Benton.

Harold Gene Pope, Jr.
Harold Gene Pope, Jr., age 42, of Hampton, GA died November 22, 2013. He was born in Atlanta to the late Harold Gene and Patricia Ann Pope, Sr. He was employed as an event planner with Omni Hotels. He loved life. Gene enjoyed singing, played the guitar and loved Elvis Presley. He was engaged to be married to Mia Ling, and he was looking forward to starting a family. He was preceded in death by his step-father Herman Destefano. Gene was a 1989 Forest Park High School graduate.
Gene is survived by his mother: Pat Destefano; sisters: Dede (Patrick) Guerriero, Shelby, NC; Norma Brock, Decatur; fiancé, Mia Ling, Shanghai, China; nieces, Jessica Nelson and Jodie Mauck; nephews, Patrick and Nicholas Guerriero; and great-nephew, Winston Mauck.

John Milliner of McDonough, GA, died November 26, 2013. He worked with the Central of Georgia railroad in Savannah for 14 years and 28 years as President of the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association in Atlanta. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his infant son, John Milliner III.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maree Milliner; daughter, Judith (Jackson) Tuggle of Franklin, NC, daughter, Elizabeth Crutcher of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Justin (Emily) Tuggle of Dunwoody, Courtney Tuggle of Macon, Jessica and Amy Crutcher of Franklin, NC.
Memorial services were held December 2 at McDonough First United Methodist Church with Pastor Darris Baker and Chaplain Don Daly officiating. Rodney Whaley, age 75, of McDonough, GA died November 27, 2013. He was born in Roanoke, AL to the late Fred and Hilda Lorene Whaley. Mr. Whaley was an avid Alabama fan. He loved to coach and did so for many years in Henry County. In 2011, he was inducted into the Henry County Hall of Fame Parks and Recreation. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Sanders Whaley, and grandson, Jefferson Cooper Rowan.
Rodney is survived by his daughters: Freddie (Jimmy) Crowell, Kay (Jeff) Rowan; sons: James R. (Patty) Whaley, Stan (Donna) Whaley; siblings: Janice Kingren, Tommy Whaley; grandchildren: Kale and Stanton Whaley; Callaway, Julianna and J.C. Rowan, and his beloved cat, Fluffles.

Runette B. Roberts, age 88, of Stockbridge, GA died November 28, 2013. She was born in Gainesville to the late Allie and Avis Buffington. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Roberts.
Runette is survived by her children, Janice Roberts Betsill, Stockbridge; Johnny Fred (Sherlyn) Roberts, Griffin; Diane Roberts (Bob) Edwards, Gainesville; grandson, Don Roberts; and great-granddaughter; Destin Leigh Roberts both of Griffin.

David C. Kalb
David C. Kalb, age 81, of McDonough, GA died November 28, 2013. He was born in Smryna to the late Thomas Monroe and Tiney Boynton Kalb. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Woodstock. David was the former owner operator of Allied Metals. David was an Army Veteran, loving husband, father and grandfather.
David is survived by his wife: Juanita Kalb; daughters: Kathi (Phil) Wright, McDonough; Darlene (David) Biggs, Stock-bridge; grandchildren: Melanie (Wayne) Meeks, Andy Wright, Daniel (Caty) Wright, Stephen (Brittany) Wright, Tamara (Brian) Jarrett and Justin (Shana) Biggs; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Grant, Isaiah, Marie, Levi, Grayson, Zachary, and Bridgette.

Brenda Hobby Strickland
Mrs. Brenda Hobby Strickland, age 59 of Jackson, Georgia passed away November 29, 2013. She was born in Atlanta to Alvin Hobby and the late Annie Grace Rutledge Hobby. Brenda was a member of Mount Carmel Assembly of God and enjoyed collecting bells and hummingbirds.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Ray Strickland; children, Kevin (Patricia) Strickland of Chandler, Arizona, Crystal (Joseph) Neisler of Tennessee; grandchildren, Eric, Candice, Tristin and Robert; father, Alvin (Inez) Hobby of Stockbridge; siblings, Patricia (Bill) Clotfelter of McDonough, Robert (Marilee) Hobby of Stockbridge, Roger (Terri) Burdette of McDonough, Wayne (Nancy) Burdette of McDonough, June Sette of Stockbridge; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held December 4 from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves, Rev. Robby Mullinax and Rev. Roger Burdette will officiate. Janice Elaine Neal, age 52, of Stockbridge, GA died November 30, 2013. She was born in Atlanta to the late Jimmy Walker and Jean Grantham Walker.
Janice is survived by her husband, Dean Neal; mother, Jean Walker; children, Steven Long, Michael (Jayme) Long, Dain (Leigh) Neal, Dean Neal, Melanie (Kirk) Prince; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
