Flag Retirement Ceremony

 Veterans Service Christ (VSC) will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Locust Grove. The Henry County VSC are hosting this event, Henry County Eagle Scouts will officiate. Flags may be dropped off at the church office. A flag retirement ceremony is very touching, moving and reminds all why we respect the flag and our veterans. Participants are reminded to bring their lawn chairs. The church is located at 2950 Tanger Boulevard in Locust Grove.

 

3-hour Charity Zumbathon

  ZBC Fitness LLC is holding a 3-hour Zumbathon charity event to promote breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for the Zumba Breast Cancer Research Grant. The event will be held at Fairview Recreation Center located at 35 Austin Road in Stockbridge on October 17 from 6 until 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Hampton Events

  Enjoy the Haunted Hill House of Horror hayride and outdoor maze for only $5. It will be open each weekend through the end of October. Tickets are $10 per person and the event will take place at the old City Shop on Tom Eason Drive. The Great Pumpkin Haunted Festival kicks off on Oct. 26 at noon and runs until 8 p.m. The Chili Cook Off is also Saturday, October 26, from 2 until 4 p.m.  Entry fee is $10. Cash prizes: First $100, Second $50, Third $25.  Peoples choice winners get their name on the trophy in the museum. Apply at www.cityofhamptonga.gov. Tasting spoons are $1 for ten tickets. Sharon School Fall Festival

  The Sharon School at Sharon Baptist Church will have their first Fall Festival on October 18 from 5 until 8 p.m. Enjoy craft vendors, food, games, live entertainment, and lots more fall fun for the entire family and it’s open to the community. The church is located at 571 North Ola Road in McDonough.

 

Men II Men Fish Fry

  There will be a Men II Men Fish Fry on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church Education Center, located at 253 Macon Street in McDonough. They will have red snapper, catfish and whiting. The cost is $6.50 per plate; and $3.50 for a sandwich. Dinner includes cole slaw, baked beans, soda and a slice of cake. All proceeds will be donated to the Harvest.

 

Bethany Baptist to host ESL class

  Bethany Baptist Church in McDonough is hosting English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor training at the church. This training course teaches conversational English as an outreach ministry. Class times are Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8:30  to 5:30 p.m. Cost for the training is $45, payable to Bethany Baptist Church. Lunch is provided on Saturday, the final day of ESL instructor training. Participants must attend all 14 1/2 hours of training to receive North American Mission Board certification for ESL instruction. Genealogical Society Meeting  

  The Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties, Inc. cordially invite the community to their free meeting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church Educational Building in McDonough. The speakers are two of their own volunteers, Mrs. Dorothy A. Tuck, will present ‘Documenting Your Family History,” and Mrs. Patricia S. Rosser, will speak on “Signers of the Constitution.” Following the meeting, refreshments will be served at the Brown House.

 

Henry NAACP to Sponsor Political Forum

  The Henry County Branch of the NAACP is sponsoring a free and public political forum in McDonough. Come out and meet the candidates for Mayor and City Council. This community political forum will be held on Thursday, October 10 at the Community Room of the Henry County Government Building at 112 South Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough from 7 – 9 p.m. All candidates are invited to attend. Republican Party Cook Off

  The Henry County Republican Party is hosting a Western Festival and Chili Cook Off on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Booths Crossing Shopping Center, 106 Woosley Road in Hampton. Admission is $6. Sample chili and see their recreated Western town.
