Lunch and Learn

On October 8, 2013 Susan Howington, Family and Consumer Scientist with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension in Henry County, will be offering a class on Gluten Intolerance.  The class will be in room A of the extension Office at 97 Lake Dow Rd. in McDonough and will begin at 12 noon. 3-hour Charity Zumbathon

  ZBC Fitness LLC is holding a 3-hour Zumbathon charity event to promote breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for the Zumba Breast Cancer Research Grant. The event will be held at Fairview Recreation Center located at 35 Austin Road in Stockbridge on October 17 from 6 until 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Cub Scouts

  Faith Baptist Church, located at 346 Highway 138 E. (Corner of Highway 138 and Millers Mill Road) in Stockbridge, is now sponsoring Cub Scout Pack 346. This Cub Scout Pack is open to boys in Grades 1 - 5 and meets each Tuesday at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Ray or Bobbie Scott at 678-644-5055.


Hampton Events

  Enjoy the Haunted Hill House of Horror hayride and outdoor maze for only $5. It will be open each weekend through the end of October. Tickets are $10 per person and the event will take place at the old City Shop on Tom Eason Drive. The Great Pumpkin Haunted Festival kicks off on Oct. 26, at Noon and runs until 8 p.m. The Chili Cook off is also Saturday, October 26, from 2 until 4 p.m.  Entry fee is $10. Cash prizes: First $100, Second $50, Third $25.  Peoples choice - get their name on trophy in Museum.  Apply at Tasting spoons are $1 for ten tickets. Cake walk is  50 cents. Sharon School Fall Festival

  The Sharon School at Sharon Baptist Church will have their first Fall Festival on October 18 from 5 until 8 p.m. Enjoy craft vendors, food, games, live entertainment, and lots more fall fun for the entire family and it’s open to the community. The church is located at 571 North Ola Road in McDonough.


Gospel Church Fall Picnic

  Life in the Spirit Full Gospel Church invites the community to their annual Fall picnic on Saturday, October 5 at the site of our future church home. A sign indicating the entrance to the property will be located on Daily Mill Road. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and additional side dishes served; along with various desserts. Save the Udders Day and Diva Dash 5K

  Southern Belle Farm will host their 3rd Annual Save the Udders Day and Diva Dash 5K on Saturday, October 5. The Diva Dash 5K/10K/1-Mile starts at 9 a.m. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. Farm goers are encouraged to wear pink for a special discount, and breast cancer survivors will be honored with free admission on this day. A special program on breast cancer awareness honoring survivors with a guest speaker will be followed by a pink parade and a pink balloon release. Southern Belle Farm is located at 1767 Turner Church Road in McDonough.


Men II Men Fish Fry

  There will be a Men II Men Fish Fry on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church Education Center, located at 253 Macon Street in McDonough. They will have red snapper, catfish and whiting. The cost is $6.50 per plate; and $3.50 for a sandwich. Dinner includes cole slaw, baked beans, soda and a slice of cake. All proceeds will be donated to the Harvest.


Genealogical Society Meeting  

  The Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties, Inc. cordially invite the community to their free meeting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church Educational Building in McDonough. The speakers are two of their own volunteers, Mrs. Dorothy A. Tuck, will present ‘Documenting Your Family History,” and Mrs. Patricia S. Rosser, will speak on “Signers of the Constitution.” Following the meeting refreshments will be served at the Brown House.
