Governor Deal visits AMS

From staff reports

Governor Nathan Deal visited Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) on Aug. 13 and took a pair of ceremonial laps around the track to open the events leading up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AdvoCare 500 Labor Day race weekend. Deal started the morning with a breakfast to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and spoke about the economic boost the race weekend brings to Georgia.

AMS President Ed Clark (l.) along with Governor Nathan Deal raced around the 1.54 mile speedway aboard the official Chevrolet Camaro pace car at the head of the pack of a group of supporters from Speedway Children’s Charities.  Special photo

“The AdvoCare 500 is one of the biggest - if not the biggest single day sporting event held in the state of Georgia,” said Governor Deal. “It brings many thousands of jobs and much money to the state of Georgia as a result of it being held here.”

“It’s an honor to have the Governor back at Atlanta Motor Speedway,” said AMS President Ed Clark. “We are grateful for his support, not only with our NASCAR Sprint Cup race, but also with the work Speedway Children’s Charities performs in our community.”
