Lions Club aids with
new additions to park

The Henry County Lions Club recently donated $3,000 to the City of McDonough for the addition of six new swings in Alexander Park. Members of the club and city officials gathered on Friday, July 19, for a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the swings.

After club president Alex Mercado made the ribbon cutting official, he spoke about the relationship the Lions Club has with McDonough.

“We will continue to support the city, and we hope our friendship continues in the future as it does today,” said Mercado.

Mayor Billy Copeland gave a background to how Alexander Park came about before thanking the Lions Club. He said the park was officially dedicated in 1975, but the city began using the grounds in the late 1940s.

“We are blessed that people like Mr. George Alexander donated 12 acres of beautiful property,” said Copeland. “I applaud the members of the club; what a great organization. We thank you for these swings, and they’re going to be utilized.”
