Henry County has been growing so much lately that some places are becoming unrecognizable. In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can name the persons or place shown above, write us at editor@henrycountytimes.com and tell us about it. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the location of the picture and notes readers send us. Photo courtesy of Henry/Clayton Genealogical Society. Visit the Genealogical Society at 71 Macon Street (in the Brown House) in McDonough Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last Week's Picture

Thanks to Charles Maddox and Debra Wright for writing in to identify the photo.

Joe Reid tells us that this photo was taken in Zack’s parking lot along Cedar Street in McDonough before the cedar tree (present corner of Cedar and John Frank Ward) was cut down.

Carol Carter Rice says, “this is Zack’s Big Buy, my second home. I worked there from 1977 till it closed in 2002. This picture was taken in the late 70’s or early 80’s before the store was expanded because you can see the McGarity house in the background which stood between Zack's and Central Feed and Seed. It was torn down before the store was expanded.”

Correction

We goofed in last week’s As It Was identification. Lynn Shellnut Penn is the girl driving the car, which was a blue Chevelle with a white top.

Thanks to Janet Russell Shellnut for setting us straight!

Have a picture of Henry County as it was? Send it to us at editor@henrycountytimes.com or 35 Griffin Street, McDonough, GA. 30253. All pictures will be handled carefully and returned to owner.
