Scout Troop 61 holds
flag retirement ceremony

Boy Scout Troop 61 of McDonough held their second flag retirement ceremony at Heritage Park in honor of Flag Day. Troop 61 is involved in several community activities such as summer camp barbecue fundraisers, Hands on Henry and the Henry Food Bank. These kids live by the Scout Law. A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. The troop is led by Scout Master Ed Shulak and assisted by Jeff Fitz, William Wilson and Brad Crawford. Austin Thoms is the Senior Patrol Leader.

The Henry County Leatherneck Detachment 1339 was honored to be invited to participate in the event. The Boy Scouts are the only youth civilian organization that is allowed to retire the flag. “Troop 61 did the best flag retirement this Marine has ever seen,” said Mark Barr of Detachment 1339.
