Thelma Lean Spyers Merritt
Mrs. Thelma Lean Spyers Merritt, age 72, of Locust Grove, GA, passed away May 19, 2013. Mrs. Merritt was born in Moultrie, GA, the daughter of the late John and Madelyn Howard Spyers. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, being active in her church, cooking and reading. She was a member of the Life of the Spirit Church.
Survivors are her husband, Billy Jack Merritt of Locust Grove; children, Diane Merritt of Locust Grove; son and daughter-in-law, John and Stacey Merritt of Hampton; grandchildren, Cameron and Isabel Merritt of Hampton; brother, Edward Spyers of Stockbridge; nieces and a nephew.

Nelvinia A. Smith
Nelvinia A. Smith, age 59, of Stockbridge, GA, died May 19, 2013. She was born in Warrenton, NC, to the late Harvey and Gretta Ree Brown Alston. Nelvinia was a loving mother, wife, sister and a treasure to all that she met.
She is survived by her husband, Link Smith, Sr.; son: Link Smith, Jonesboro; daughters: Lanikka Smith, Lawrenceville; Brandi Aprelle Smith, Greensboro, NC; and grandson: Elijah Makhi Smith.

Rebecca Paschal Johnson
Mrs. Rebecca Paschal Johnson, age 76, of McDonough, GA, passed away June 5, 2013. Mrs. Johnson was born in Heard County the daughter of the late Harvey Hoyt and Nora Kelley Paschal. Rebecca was an active member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sitting on her porch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Johnson; grandson, Jeremy Johnson; and brother, Samuel Kelley Paschal.
She was a loving mother to Ellen Johnson of Shannon and David Johnson (Tammy) of McDonough; stepson, Ed Johnson; loving grandmother to Thomas Frasure and Josh Johnson and two great grandchildren; niece, Kelley Bell and several great nieces and nephews.

James Heyward Owens
Mr. James Heyward Owens, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away June 6, 2013. Mr. Owens was born in Bath, SC, the son of the late Joseph Heyward and Hattie Pearl Davis Owens. Heyward was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough. He served his country in the US Air Force from 1949 – 1952. Heyward owned and operated McDonough Gas Company before becoming a developer and working in real estate. He was a founder of McDonough Christian Academy. Heyward was known for his sense of humor and enjoying time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lynn Simpson Owens and two sons, Les and Joel Owens; brother, Bill Owens.
Survivors are his sons; Lyn and JoAnn Owens of Butler and John Owens of Locust Grove; special friend, Alicia Ann Boggs of McDonough; grandchildren, Wesley and Justin Owens of Locust Grove; brother, Phillip Owens of Hampton and several nieces and nephews.

A. Louise Flowers
A. Louise Flowers died June 7, 2013. She was born with cerebral palsy, raised in Atlanta and for six years in Redwood City, California. For seven years she worked with Atlanta Linen Company not ever missing a day even though she felt badly many days. She belonged to Oakland Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia. Ms. Flowers definitely inspired anyone around her. Doctors marveled at her resolve, church friends constantly talked of her smile and her tenacity, family adored her, and she taught patience and love. She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her sister, Grace and brother-in-law Ken Coombs of Hampton, sister-in-law Joan Flowers of Villa Rica, six nephews and nieces, two great great nephews and one great great niece.

Milton Lamar Rutledge
Mr. Milton Lamar Rutledge “Poppy,” age 82, of McDonough, GA, passed away June 7, 2013. Lamar was born in Newton County the son of the late Alford Melton and Viola Harper Rutledge. Lamar was a member of Philippi Baptist Church; he served his country in the U.S. Army, owned and operated A-1 Landscaping, enjoyed hunting and raising bird dogs, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L. Rutledge, and a brother; Lanier Rutledge.
Survivors are his loving wife of 59 years, Margie Duffey Rut-ledge; daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Terry Gourley of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Joann Rutledge of Monroe; grandchildren, Carisa Henderson (Donny), Shanda Watkins (Joe), Jonathan Rutledge (Jennifer), and Kayla Hammons; great grandchildren, Julia and Jenna Henderson, Hannah and Keith Watkins, and Katelyn Rutledge; siblings, Irene Meyer (Art), LaVerne Rutledge, Harold Rutledge, Agnes Stapler (Tom), Clinton Rutledge (Sandy), James Rutledge (Jane), Herman Rutledge (Kim), Carolyn Williams and sister-in-law, Joyce Rutledge; numerous nieces and nephews.

Edmond Richard Barbeau
Edmond Richard Barbeau, age 77, died June 8, 2013, in Stockbridge, GA. A native of Brainerd, Minnesota, Mr. Barbeau was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Francis Barbeau, and his mother, Leona Margaret Hooten.
Survivors include his spouse, Joyce I. Barbeau, Stockbridge; son, Edmond E. Barbeau, Stockbridge; daughter, Terri B. (Andrew) Benya, Orange City, FL; his sister, Jennifer Henck, McDonough; a grandson, Edmond Joshua Barbeau, Stockbridge; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Mariah Walker, McDonough; and four- legged family members: Susie, Rex and Meme.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 12 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Pastor Stan Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 12 from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
