Tomato Sandwich Party

  Community Gardens of Henry will hold its Second Annual Love and Homegrown Tomatoes Fundraiser on Saturday, June 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Proceeds go to develop and enhance the Helping Harvests gardens that are a vital part of the organization along with its community gardens. The event will be held at the Wesley Way Gardens, located at 150 John Wesley Way in McDonough. KidShine Day Camp

  Generation Church will host KidShine Performing Arts Day Camp this summer. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in dance, puppets, instruments, scenery painting, drama and more. KidShine will take place Monday - Friday, July 22 - 26, with a final performance on Friday night. The day camp is open to campers entering grades 3 - 8 in Fall 2013 (completed 2nd - 7th grades). Crossroads Career Network

  Crossroads Career Network meets at Stockbridge First UMC, 4863 N. Henry Blvd., Monday, June 17, 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (lower level at rear of building).   The program will focus on presenting a winning image and sharpening your interviewing skills. Gold Wing Road Riders

  Chapter A of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association meets the third Saturday of every month at Southern Cooking, located at 406 Highway 155 South in McDonough. They have dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6:30. For more info contact Larry at 678-432-5910.


Charity Breakfast

  Join Southern Crescent Child Advocacy center in a charity breakfast sponsored by Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 70 (34 McDonough Street, Hampton) on June 29 from 7 to 11 a.m.  A portion of the proceeds will go to furnish the Child Advocacy interview room.   Donations only for a tasty full breakfast complete with plenty of coffee, juice and generous portions of eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits and gravy. 


Purple Martin/Growing Gourds class

  On Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m. the Community Gardens of Henry welcome Naturalist, Doug Martin from the Cubihatcha Outdoor Center as he presents a class on Purple Martins and growing gourds. The class will offer instruction on when and how to plant gourd seeds; how to make gourd houses and how to paint gourd houses.  Important facts to know about putting up Purple Martin houses and how to best maintain them. It will take place at Shade House, 86 Work Camp Road in McDonough. There are a limited number of spots. The cost is $25 for non-members and $10 for members. To qualify for the discounted rate, you must have paid organization member dues of $25. If you wish to join, you may submit your payment with your discounted class payment. NAACP Juneteenth Celebration

  The Henry County Branch of the NAACP will hold its 1st Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Wednesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church located at 262 Macon Street in McDonough. The inaugural event will highlight the efforts of the Union Soldiers who freed slaves in 1865, years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This Henry County event will feature speakers, live music and dancing. The Juneteenth Celebration is free and open to the entire public. Call the NAACP at 404-433-3290 for more information.
