Although best known for its Christmas Kettle Campaign and bell-ringing at local stores during the winter holiday season, the Salvation Army works to help those in need throughout the year, and each year celebrates National Salvation Army Week. In recognition of National Salvation Army Week, this year held from May 13 – 17, the Henry County Salvation Army is offering special sales at its Henry County Service Center and Retail Store in McDonough.

Salvation Army Week is one week set aside nationally to recognize the work performed and services offered in the community by the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army Henry County Service Center wants to raise awareness of it’s retail family store and the various services they offer to the community by holding a different special each day of Salvation Army Week and ending the week with free hot dogs, chips and drinks this Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The remaining sales this week include Wednesday, buy one get one free on all clothes, purses, belts and shoes; Thursday, buy one get one free on all books, cds and videotapes; Friday, free hot dogs, chips and drinks in the late afternoon, compliments of We Care Ministries of Hampton.

All year long, The Salvation Army Henry County Center provides emergency food, clothing, rent and utility assistance, counseling, and other resources to individuals and families facing a financial crisis. Last year, The Salvation Army Henry County Service Center provided
Henry County children in need with toys and clothing for Christmas and gave seniors in area nursing homes gift bags, through the generous support of the community.

Doug McClure, Director of the Henry County Unit of the Salvation Army, said he hopes to see members of the community come out to the Salvation Army Store and see what great deals can be had, as well as fellowship with local volunteers and enjoy a complimentary snack.

“Our store really has something for everyone and not only do we have great prices, but it supports our mission,” said McClure. “We want to make the community aware that we are here and have many services to offer.”

The Salvation Army Henry County Service Center is located at located at 401 Racetrack Road in McDonough. Regular store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
