Krispy Kreme coming to Stockbridge

By Monroe Roark
Times Correspondent

The taste buds of Henry Countians are certain to be aroused by a recent announcement coming from Stockbridge.

City officials have confirmed that a new Krispy Kreme Doughnuts establishment is coming to town. This brief statement was posted April 30 on the city’s official Facebook page: “Psst .... Krispy Kreme is coming to the City of Stockbridge. Stay tuned for details!”

That single sentence drew 71 comments and 310 likes, indicating that the arrival of a new Krispy Kreme store could be a welcome addition to the city’s landscape.

“We are delighted that such an iconic American company has expressed a desire to locate in the City of Stockbridge,” said Mayor Mark Alarcon.

This would be the 20th Krispy Kreme location in Georgia and the eighth in the metro Atlanta area. The closest store for most Henry Countians now is in Riverdale on Highway 85. There are two in or near downtown Atlanta, on Ponce de Leon Avenue and on Evans Street, along with locations in Duluth, Lilburn, Marietta and Roswell, according to the company’s web site.

The company has been in existence since 1937, when the first store opened in North Carolina. There are now more than 100 locations in 37 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
