Henry County March of Dimes Ambassador selected

Brock Bodiford, now 16 months old, is one of nearly half a million babies that are born prematurely in the United States, according to the March of Dimes. Bodiford, who was born at Piedmont Henry Hospital in November 2011, has been chosen as this year’s Henry County March of Dimes Ambassador.

“In the beginning, they told us that he would only have a 10 percent chance of survival,” said Bodiford’s parents, Michael and Tara. “Our sweet boy overcame the odds and is doing well today.”

Bodiford is considered a micro-preemie. He was born 17 weeks early, weighing just one pound, eight ounces and measuring just 12-and-a-half inches long. Bodiford spent 141 days in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at both Piedmont Henry Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

“Brock was able to beat the odds because of the wonderful NICUs we were in and because of their exceptional staff,” said Tara Bodiford.

Over the past five years, Piedmont Henry Hospital employees have raised more than $10,000 for the March of Dimes. These funds support lifesaving research into the causes and prevention of prematurity and birth defects as well as supports legislation that improves care for moms and babies.

The Henry County March of Dimes walk is Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Heritage Park. To sign up for the walk visit For more information on Piedmont Henry Hospital, visit
