James Chambers

  James “Jim” Chambers, age 82, of McDonough, GA died December 31, 2012. He was born in Conley to the late Benjamin Franklin and Martha Corine Chambers. Jim was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, and retired from Carpenters Local 225.

  Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jewell; children: Charlene Bowman (Tony), McDonough; Joseph Chambers (Debra), Stockbridge; brother: Benny Chambers (Annette), McDonough; sisters: Martha Jo Miese (Jerry), Rochester, NY; Linda Dodson (Tommy), McDonough; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held January 4 at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Al O'Quinn and Rev. E. C. Chatham, Jr. officiating. Interment Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Donna Lea Ballard

  Donna Lea Ballard, 87 of Jonesboro passed at her home on Wednesday evening January 2, 2013. She was born in Indianola, Iowa but resided on Lake Spivey for 52 years. Mrs. Ballard was a Pink Lady at Henry General Hospital for 25 years.

  She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard W. Ballard, daughter, Rhonda Buckner and her husband Eddie, daughter, Cindy Howard and her husband Gene, her granddaughter Candace Duvall and great grandson Austin York.

  A memorial service was held January 5 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Hampton. SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society in Stockbridge.

 

Faye Swygert

  Faye Swygert, age 78, of McDonough, GA died January 3, 2013. She was born in Rumford, ME, one of seven children, to the late Alvin Arthur and Sadie Boyle Zinck.

  Mrs. Swygert is survived by her husband: Hope Allen Swygert, McDonough; children: Mark (Brenda) Swygert, Silverdale, WA; Cindy (Fred) Carter, McDonough and David (Ashley) Swygert, McDonough; brother: Henry (Mary Lou) Zinck, Rumford, ME; 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gregory Owen McKinney

  Gregory “Greg” Owen McKinney, age 56, of McDonough, GA passed away January 4, 2013. Greg was born in Fulton County. Greg enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, computers, and his dog “Hurley. He was a member of McDonough Christian Church. He served his country in the US Army. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Polk.

  Survivors are his wife, Janice McKinney of McDonough; children, Ben McKinney of Orlando and Courtney McKinney of McDonough; grandson, Ben McKinney; father, Ben McKinney of Loganville; siblings, Doug, Mike, Gail, Mary, Carrie, Richard and Suzanne; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

  Funeral services for Greg were held January 7 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Leslie officiating. Interment Sherwood Memorial Park. Andrew Donald Brown

   Mr. Andrew Donald Brown, age 80, of Hampton, GA passed away January 5, 2013. Mr. Brown was born in Hampton, GA the son of the late Andrew Curtis and Miriam Susie Hand Brown. He was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church and a member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. Brown was an insurance agent with Met Life for 32 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and wood carving.

  Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Margie Brown of Hampton; children, David and Shari Brown of Hampton, Donna and Bobby Craig of Hampton and Leigh and Ron Schwarzman of Ball Ground; grandchildren, Charlie Brown, Daniel Brown, Will Kenimer, Brittany Craig, Kyle Craig, Sarah Schwarzman and Jacob Schwarzman.

  Funeral services were held January 8 at Hampton United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery. Katherine Josie Barnes Carmichael

  Mrs. Katherine Josie Barnes Carmichael, age 85, of McDonough, GA passed away January 5, 2013. Mrs. Carmichael was born in Butts County, the daughter of the late Claude Otis and Lizzie Mae Kimball Barnes. Mrs. Carmichael was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, going to the mountains, sewing and cross stitching. She was a member of McDonough Baptist Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Rodney Davis and siblings, Otis Barnes, James Barnes, Kimball Barnes, Magnolia Lunsford, Lily Wilkerson and Rosamae Jenkins.

  She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Hugh Carmichael of McDonough; children, Connie and Roger Davis of Stockbridge and Lemual and Denise Carmichael of McDonough; grandchildren, Wendi Davis of Panama City, FL, Candi and Buddy Patrick of Stockbridge, Lee Carmichael and Bonnie Neas of Greenville, TN, Hannah and Sage Lauderdale of McDonough; great grandchildren, Buddy Allen, Micah, Alaina Patrick, Jessica Davis and Sydney Carmichael; sister, Hilda Love of McDonough.

Malzie Floyd Wells Smith

  Mrs. Malzie Floyd Wells Smith, age 85, of McDonough, GA formerly of Tallassee, AL passed away January 5, 2013. Mrs. Smith was born in Westville, FL the daughter of the late Jasper Green and Linnie Ellen Baker Wells. Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, sewing, gardening and flowers. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Tallassee, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis J. Smith Jr; son, Ronnie Smith; daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith; great grandchild, Reagan Smith and all of her siblings.

  Survivors are her children, Mickey Smith (Donna) of Morrow, Glynn Smith (Beverly) of McDonough, Clora Long (Dave) of Cherokee, NC, Greg Smith of Tallassee, AL, and Jean Moreland of McDonough; 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Oscar J. Pena

  Colonel Oscar J. Pena, age 84, of Stockbridge, GA died January 6, 2013. He was born in Loredo, TX to the late Eduardo and Rafaela Garcia Pena. He was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church. Oscar was a member of Knights of Columbus, and he served as Grand Knight.

  Oscar is survived by his wife: Amalia of Stockbridge; daughters: Nelda (Al) Reese, St. Louis, MO; Nora (Juan) Zaizar, Kirkville, TX; Ninfa (Timothy) Purcell, Bryan, TX; Norma (Joseph) Brown, San Antonio, TX; Frances (Steve) Powell, Stockbridge; son: David Pena, Stockbridge; 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held January 9 at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Terry Young officiating. Interment Georgia National Cemetery.
