Shawna Elaine Britt

  Mrs. Shawna Elaine Britt, age 35, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away January 2, 2013. Shawna was born in Clayton County and graduated from Jonesboro High School Class of 1996. She received her BS degree from Georgia State University. Shawna enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, very athletic and she enjoyed playing softball.

  Survivors are her husband, Dewey Britt of Locust Grove; daughter, Graycen Britt of Locust Grove; parents Timmy and Debbie Norton of Fayetteville; grandparents, Sue and Gene Godfrey of Hampton and Lucy Bryson of Fayetteville; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Dewey Wayne Britt Sr. of Locust Grove; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

James Howard New, Jr.

  James Howard New, Jr., age 91, passed away on December 27, 2012. Mr. New was born and grew up in Atlanta. The son of the late James Howard New, Sr. and Rilla Kelley New, and brother of the late Virgil Eugene New, he was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps. He retired from AT&T after a career spanning 41 years. A resident of Fayetteville, GA. since 1991, Mr. New was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, the Free and Accepted Masons of Georgia, Panthersville Lodge #543, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Georgia YAARAB Shriners.

  He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Nell Meier New; his brother, Walter Richard New (Tina) of Kingston; son James David New (Doris) of Lexington, SC; daughter Ellen New Jeanes (Tom) of Stock-bridge; four granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren and several nephews.

  A memorial service for Mr. New was held January 4 at Hemphill Memorial Presbyterian Church in Stockbridge with Rev. Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Sacred Journey Hospice in Stockbridge. SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society.

 

Jimmy Austin

  Mr. Jimmy Austin, age 67 of McDonough, Georgia passed away December 28, 2012. Jimmy was born in McDonough to the late Samuel Bentley and Annie Olive Whitaker Austin. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and had been employed with Lithonia Lighting for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garden, visiting with folks and time with his grandchildren. He loved to sit under his pecan tree and was known as the “Mayor of Ola.” He was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy Austin.

  Survivors include his wife, Vivian Whitehead Austin; son, Shane (Angie) Austin of Jackson; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ashley and Sam; siblings, Annette Pruitt of Milner, Larry (Joy) Austin of Locust Grove, Donald (Elizabeth) Austin of Locust Grove; sister-in-law, Patsy Austin of Stockbridge.

Ralph McCager Mobley

  Mr. Ralph McCager Mobley, age 75 of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away December 28, 2012. He was born in Broxton to the late McCager and Matisha Deen Mobley. He was a parishioner of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church and enjoyed sports, especially the Atlanta Braves.

  Survivors include his wife, Esperanza Dominguez Mobley of Stockbridge; daughters, Teresa (Greg) Osborn of Lawrenceville, Ana (Scott) Turco of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Christa (Brian) Hughes of Astoria, New York, Michelle Osborn of Lawrenceville, McCager, Tyler and Nolan Turco all of Allen, Texas; brother, Ledmon (Vonnis) Mobley of Broxton.

Robert Howard Rimmer

  Mr. Robert Howard “Bob-O” Rimmer, age 47 of McDonough, Georgia passed away December 28, 2012. He was born in Decatur, Georgia to Jane Ellen Smith Rimmer and the late Robert Earl Rimmer. Bob-O enjoyed cars, motorcycles and racing.

  Survivors include his mother, Jane Rimmer of McDonough; sons, Christopher Butler of Coffee County, Michael (Chelsea) Butler of Parris Island, SC; granddaughters, Jada and Charley Butler; sisters, Karen Rimmer of Hampton and Kim Haynes of McDonough; nephews, Jacob Greene and Justin Haynes; and a host of relatives and friends.

  Memorial services were held January 5 from Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Rimmer officiated. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the American Heart Association. Harvey M. Yoder

  Harvey M. Yoder, age 71, of Stockbridge, GA died Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was born in Wooster, OH to the late Moses D. and Mary Miller Yoder. Harvey attended Flippen United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband and father, and a doting grandfather. He was co-founder of Premier Transportation. Harvey was involved in numerous philanthropic projects. He previously served on Board of Directors for Noah’s Ark. Harvey proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, the beach, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

  Mr. Yoder is survived by his wife: Nancy Lee Yoder, Stock-bridge; daughters: Kimberly (Josh) McDonald, McDonough, and Heather (Josh) Groach, Atlanta; brothers: Ferdinand (Nancy) Yoder, Alliance, OH; Moses (Cindy) Yoder, Jr., Cleveland, OH; sisters: Cora (Nati) Delarca, Honduras; Ann (Don)Titchenal, Salem, OR; Elizabeth Peterson, McDonough; Katie (Herman) Hoschtetler, Hartville, OH; grandchildren: Aidan, Emma, Audrey, Rembe, Henry; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

  Funeral Services were held January 3 at Flippen United Methodist Church with Pastor Travis Sneed officiating. Alexandra Grace Hughes

  Alexandra Grace Hughes, age 7 months, of McDonough, GA died December 30, 2012. She was born in Conyers to Zachery Conson Hughes and Toni Joan Blaisdell.

  Alexandra is survived by her mother: Toni Joan Blaisdell, McDonough; father: Zachery Conson Hughes, Covington; sisters: Memphis Blayke Hughes and Preslei Hazel Rae Hughes, McDonough; grandparents: Karla Jean Barber and Randall Elson Barber, Statham, Brian Keith Blaisdell and Alicia Blaisdell, McDonough, Patricia Lynn Davis, Covington.

Vera Jean Kerrison Wells

  Vera Jean Kerrison Wells, age 77, of Jenkinsburg, GA, passed away January 3, 2013 at Westbury Medical Care Home.  She was born June 14, 1935 in Edgerton, WI to the late Lester Alvin Hartzell and the late Alberta Anna Bellrichard Hartzell.  She was retired from Smead Manufacturing and was a member of County Line Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, cats and birds, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Vera is preceded in death by her husbands, Wayne Edward Kerrison, who passed away October 22, 1985, and Oscar Eugene "Gene" Wells, who passed away September 24, 2012; 2 sisters, Marlene Nill and Lois Nill; and brother, Roger Hartzell.

  Vera is survived by children, David Kerrison, Deanna and Kenneth McIntyre, Jimmy Kerrison, Leanna and Billy Sims, Patty Combs, Robby Kerrison; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Vonnie and Chuck DeZwarte, Mary Lou and Jim Whitrock, Linda and Larry Kufel; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Charlotte Hartzell, Donald and Joyce Hartzell, Lester and Barbara Hartzell, all of WI; several nieces and nephews.   

  Funeral services for Vera Wells were held January 8 at County Line Baptist Church with Brother Gene Sellers officiating.  Interment Locust Grove City Cemetery.
