On a typical Saturday
morning, crowds stroll by tables and tents laden everything from
with muscadines to pancakes to freshly ground coffee beans. This
is the world of the Courthouse Square Market. Open each Saturday
from 8 a.m. until 12 noon in the parking lot between the Chafin
Building and the McDonough Welcome Center, the Market brings in
local produce from Henry and surrounding counties.

Jim and Sally Chafin are
the organizers of the Courthouse Square Market and are very
excited at the growth of the market. Jim Chafin commented on his
idea.
“I had always liked the
idea of having some type of produce market here on the Square
and when we moved out of our building, I thought that this
parking lot would be the perfect spot.”
Sally Chafin said, “Our
hope was to keep people coming to the Square on the weekends and
to be a complement to the other businesses.”
Why should people come?
“Freshly picked vegetables and other produce are so good for our
health and nutrition,” continued Chafin. “Plus, in an outdoor
market like this, people get to know each other and to know what
a great town McDonough is. A place for people to meet, buy from
local people and have a good time.”
