McDonough Youth Association Softball

  McDonough Youth Association Softball will be holding signups at Alexander Park, 300 Atlanta Street in McDonough from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 28 and February 4. For more information, visit them on line at and click on the softball.


Crossroads Career Network Workshop

  Crossroads Career Network Workshop is at Stockbridge First UMC, located at 4863 N. Henry Blvd. Classes will be on January 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. This six-step program offers help for career explorers: to discover their work-related calling, maximize job searches, improve resumes, learn network and interview techniques, and select the right career. Childcare provided - please have children bring a sack lunch. The workshop costs $30 and includes lunch for career explorer, workbook and Career Direct online assessment. Financial Fitness Workshop

  There will be a complimentary presentation on Tax Strategies and Creating a Financial Plan on Saturday, January 21, from 4 - 5 p.m. at Northbridge Business Center, 157 Burke Street, Stockbridge. Author Event

  On Sunday, January 22 from 1 -5 p.m. author Terry McAfee will have a book signing at the McDonough Public Library. Mr. McAfee has developed a notebook “The Conversation” to aid Alzheimer patients in remaining in their homes longer. The Conversation is a journal designed to promote active thinking for those with memory loss in hopes of sustaining connections with loved ones. Mr. McAfee will have books for sale and will discuss the development and use of the book.


Tea Party Meeting

  The Henry County Tea Party will have its regular meeting Thursday, January 26 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Community Annex Room at 116 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough. The featured speaker will be making a presentation on the T-Splost tax that will be voted on later this year. Freedom Fund Scholarship Program

  The Henry County Branch of the NAACP announces its 2012 Freedom Fund Scholarship Program. The Scholarship is merit based and open to all current graduating high school seniors who attend a high school in Henry County, Georgia. Eligible applicants must also reside in Henry County. All applicants must complete the official application. Scholarship recipients who are selected as finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Selection Commit-tee of the Henry County Branch of the NAACP. Awards are granted without regard to race, creed, color, religion, gender, or national origin. The deadline for complete application submissions is February 1, 2012.  Special Needs Chorus

 HeartSong Henry is a chorus for special needs teens and adults (13 and up). They meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, at Shanes Rib Shack on Jonesboro Rd. in McDonough. Interested parties should come to the meeting room that is a few doors down from the restaurant. Practice is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. They plan to sing at local nursing homes, special events and wherever they can!
